Everyone, both young and old.  Many schools support this project, using it as a learning tool to teach math concepts, recycling, and environmental lessons.  It provides a spirit of belonging to a larger community of people helping one another. Service organizations and club members can participate as a means of earning service badges. Other participants joining in the effort include churches, synagogues, businesses, and hundreds of individuals and families.  The nice part is there is no cost to anyone who participates.

There are several reasons.  The tabs contain a higher grade of aluminum than the containers they are on.  Those containers, if not rinsed well, can be messy and attract a variety of undesirable critters.  Because they are small, pull tabs are easy to collect.  The size and the cleanliness allows us to store a large quantity of the tabs at the Ronald McDonald House.  Once we accumulate quite a few, workers from First Street Recycling pick them up, and we are then sent a check based on the current market price and the weight.  That money is used to help pay the operating costs of the Ronald McDonald House.

It's easy - just start saving them.  Get your family, friends, and others to do the same.  Pull tabs can be collected in most any type of container - zip lock bags, plastic milk jugs, boxes, etc.  Cardboard collection containers in the shape of a little house, as well as brochures and a school curriculum, are available by contacting the Ronald McDonald House.  Once a quantity is collected, they can be dropped off at the Ronald McDonald House, the Information Desk at Dayton Children's (formerly Children's Medical Center), and most area McDonald's.

By joining in this ever-growing, no cost project, you can help both the environment and the Ronald McDonald House.  You can help provide a "home away from home" for families of children receiving medical care at a Dayton area hospital.
