Volunteers are the heart of Ronald McDonald House Charities!

From serving on our Board of Trustees or one of several committees, helping at fundraisers and special events, or performing various tasks around the House, there is a volunteer need that matches your talents and desires.

Receptionist - Our front desk is staffed by volunteer receptionists during business hours Monday thru Friday, and sometimes in the evenings.  Each shift is 3 hours in length.  The receptionists answer our telephone, check guests in and out, and perform various other office duties as needed.

Housekeeping - Volunteers are always needed to help with keeping the House clean and in order.  When guests check out, they are asked to do the basics to make the room available for the next family.  We then follow that up with a more thorough cleaning, including sanitizing and making of the beds, replacing the towels and toiletries, and refreshing the bathroom.  In addition, volunteers help us keep up with laundering our towels and bed linens, and they perform other general cleaning around the House as needed.

Outside Work - When the weather is right, volunteers help us maintain and beautify the yard and landscaping around the House.  Planting flowers, trimming bushes, distributing mulch, and weeding are some of the varied tasks performed by our volunteers.

Inside Maintenance - Just like your home, there are lots of things that need maintained from time to time.  If you like tinkering around the house, such as changing  light bulbs, re-gluing wall covering seams, or opening plugged drains, we can find odd jobs for you.

Hot Meals Program - What a great way to help our guest families after they have spent a long day with their child at the hospital!  The Hot Meal Program is an opportunity for an individual, a family, a church group, an organization, or just about anyone to help by providing an evening meal for the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House.  This may include anything from pizzas or buckets of chicken that were purchased locally to a totally homecooked meal.  Some hot meals are brought in ready to eat, some are prepared but need cooked, and others are actually prepared right in the House kitchen.

Fund Raising and Special Events - Help is often needed for our fund raising efforts.  This may include such things as selling raffle tickets at Dayton Bomber games, serving and selling refreshments or food at a bocce tournament where the proceeds are given to the House, or helping with various tasks at our annual golf tournament.  To see some of the opportunities, see our Upcoming Events page.  If you can help once, or on an ongoing basis, we can use you.

Board of Trustees/Committees - Our Board of Trustees and Committee members are also volunteers who come from all walks of life.  They do not get reimbursed for serving, but the reward is great.  If you are interested in a position on our Board of Trustees or on a standing committee, please contact the RMHC Executive Director (see staff directory).

All other prospective volunteers must complete an application (see below), and they must be scheduled for an interview with our Volunteer Coordinator.  They must be at least 16 years of age.  After acceptance into the program, the new volunteer will be given a tour of the House and  they will be provided training as needed.

For more information, simply fill out the following form and submit it to Volunteer Coordinator, Ronald McDonald House of Dayton, or call directly at (937) 224-0047, extension 13.
